Reviving the Time-honored Tradition of the Private Signal

Join Members and their Families on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. as they learn about the time-honored tradition of private signals, and create their own flags to be displayed in the clubhouse and on their boat.

One of the oldest traditions in yachting is that of the ‘Private Signal’. A private signal is a unique flag that communicates the presence of a specific individual or family on a boat. They are personal flags, or logos, similar to family crests.

On March 10th, Bettina Braisted of The Sailbag Lady will be at GBYC to conduct an interactive seminar where you will learn about the history of the Private Signal and have an opportunity to design your own during a personal sketching session with Bettina. This will be a wonderful family activity that can result in a professionally constructed flag.  Any flags purchased through the seminar will receive a GBYC discounted price.

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: RSVP to Bill Bennett at bennettb@optonline.net so that he can ensure Bettina has the appropriate number of flag kits on hand.
